Call of Cthulhu – Folio Society Edition

In our first video review, we’re very excited to show you the Folio Society edition of Call of Cthulhu & Other Weird Stories, by H.P. Lovecraft.

For nearly 70 years, The Folio Society has been publishing beautiful illustrated editions of the world’s greatest books. It believes that the literary content of a book should be matched by its physical form. With specially researched images or newly commissioned illustrations, many of its editions are further enhanced with introductions written by leading figures in their fields: novelists, journalists, academics, scientists and artists. Exceptional in content and craftsmanship, and maintaining the very highest standards of fine book production, The Folio Society editions last for generations.

The birth of the modern horror story can be traced to the dark visions that crept from the febrile imagination of H. P. Lovecraft at the beginning of the last century.

Lovecraft’s acclaimed stories The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories.  There’s a core version (featured in our video) and a limited edition version of just 750 copies.

These new editions from The Folio Society marries Lovecraft’s best-known fiction with two modern masters of the macabre, the acclaimed artist Dan Hillier and author Alan Moore. In his beautifully crafted new preface, Moore finds Lovecraft at once at odds with and integral to the time in which he lived, ‘the improbable embodiment of an estranged world in transition’ yet, despite his prejudices and parochialisms, he ‘possessed a voice and a perspective both unique in modern literature’.

H.P. Lovecraft has not only influenced modern day authors, but has also influenced the gaming industry.  Many RPG video games have taken influence including Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn, Shadowman, Dead Space, Fallout and the release later this year of Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game.
